Light of the World Church is an interdenominational church made up of people of all ages, backgrounds, nationalities, cultures and communities from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York who desire and hunger for the true Word of God and worship in His presence. As a church they believe in prayer, relying on and seeking the leading of the Holy Spirit in all that is done. The interns and alumni volunteers assist with many of the day-to-day tasks involved in an active church. They also assist with the True Vine outreach, which ministers to children who often come from tough neighborhoods.

Harrisburg

Mount Zion International School of Ministry

At the beginning of Acts, Jesus instructed His disciples to first minister in Jerusalem, then in Judea, and then to the uttermost parts of the earth. Jesus instructed them to first minister in their hometown. As a school we have the privilege to minister throughout our community. Staff, students, and interns participate in various outreaches in our local area. Below are the various outreaches we are involved in throughout the year.

Kid's Club

Kid’s Club is an inner city ministry to children in Harrisburg. Twice a week the team ministers to approximately 30 to 50 children, ranging in age from three to eleven years old. The ministry involves various activities including Bible lessons, skits, songs, crafts, and prayer times. The heart of this ministry is to make Christ known. The team has seen many children accept Christ and their hunger for God is growing rapidly.

Wake Up!

Wake Up! is a ministry to teenagers which takes place every Friday in an inner-city neighborhood of Harrisburg. The heart of the ministry is to show the teens the full and abundant life they can have in Jesus Christ.

Hospital Ministry

The hospital ministry team volunteers for the hospital’s chaplain service. They visit the patients endeavoring to bring comfort and encouragement.

Children’s Behavioral Hospital

The children’s behavioral hospital is a place which offers a range of services to children, teens and adults, who suffer from abuse, emotional instability, and those who have been removed from abusive situations. The ministry team visits every Friday and shares with the children in the transitional unit through skits, stories, crafts, and songs.

Palmyra Nursing Home

The Palmyra Nursing Home ministry holds a service for the residents every Friday afternoon. They lead in worship, share from the Scriptures or share a testimony. After the service the students visit and pray with the residents. With open hearts, the residents always welcome the time spent with Mount Zion students.

Cedar Haven Nursing Home

The Cedar Haven Nursing Home ministry is a time for the team to visit with the residents on a personal level every Monday afternoon. The focus of this ministry is to share the love of God and His heart with the residents. A small Bible study is offered to those who are interested in attending. Mount Zion also holds the Sunday morning church service for the residents, with many residents in attendance.

Elmcroft Assisted Living

Elmcroft of Lebanon is a community that offers accommodations for those who may require assistance in their daily living activities. Once each month a small group visits the facility to hold a Sunday afternoon church service for the residents. They share in song and a short sermon.

Street Ministry

Harrisburg street ministry takes place in downtown Harrisburg where people from all walks of life are found. This outreach teaches those who participate to truly respond to the Holy Spirit’s leading as they share the Gospel in evangelism.

Men's Prison

The men’s prison ministry is an outreach to the inmates who are incarcerated at one of the county prisons. The men who minister there share from the Bible, their testimony and lead the inmates in worship. After almost every visit the team returns with testimonies of salvation among those to whom they ministered.

Women’s Prison Ministry

The women’s prison ministry is an opportunity to share the love of Christ with those who are incarcerated. The staff members who minister there share in worship and from the Word of God. Many of the inmates come to the Bible study ready to learn how to grow in their relationship with the Lord. The women respond every time with questions, tears and a desire to know God for themselves. It is a blessing for the team to witness the presence of God touching and softening hearts that are truly hurting.

Youth Prison Ministry

The youth prison ministry meets once a month with teens in a local detention center. Because there are new faces each time the team begins with an “icebreaker” game in order to promote a more relaxed and open atmosphere. The team then has a time of worship and Bible Study. The young people are given the opportunity to respond, ask questions and request prayer.
