Guatemala - San Lucas

Mision Cristiana: Verbo de Vida (Christian Mission: Word of Life)

Misión Cristiana: Verbo de Vida (Christian Mission: Word of Life) was founded by Douglas('99) and Consuelo LeBlanc, under the umbrella of Mount Zion International School of Ministry, in San Lucas, Guatemala, in the summer of 2009. The vision and mission of the church is to:

  1. Come to a greater knowledge of who Christ is through the Bible and through prayer
  2. Establish cell groups in homes
  3. Share the love of Jesus to the community
  4. Establish a Bible school for Latin Americans
  5. Send out missionaries to plant churches in Guatemala and the four corners of the earth

As a church they are committed to raising true disciples and helping them to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ. This is accomplished as the church comes to a greater knowledge of who Christ is through the Bible and through prayer, as well as understanding the unity they have in Him. It continues as they understand who we are in Christ and know His voice.

The church’s heart is to reach the community that they live in with the love of Jesus Christ. They do this by meeting the practical and spiritual needs of the people. They buy groceries for some of the poor families and help with the school inscription fees. The mission also has a medical clinic for the community in which they are able to distribute free medicine, pray for their needs and share the Gospel with the people of San Lucas.

The Beginning

Doug and Consuelo

Douglas and Consuelo, along with their two children, moved to Guatemala in 2005. They left prominent careers, Douglas was in real estate and Consuelo a pediatrician. Their desire was to live among the people to whom they were ministering. The first part of the work was to simply live the Christian life and love the people. Many people were drawn by the sincere love they felt coming from Doug, Consuelo and the Mount Zion interns. It was the love of God that has brought the people to Christ.

In August 2008, after more than three years of assisting many national ministries throughout Guatemala City, they found themselves in need of new strength. They were led to withdraw from much of the ministry activity and wait upon the Lord. During this time, the Lord directed them to San Lucas, a village about 15 minutes outside of Guatemala City, as the place where they were to focus their energies.

They began to pray and visit San Lucas, walking the streets and sharing God’s love. In April 2009, they moved permanently to San Lucas. In June, they received a team of interns from Mount Zion, who helped establish the mission. In August, they celebrated the inaugural worship service and the medical clinic opened its doors to the community.
